"Life
is too beautiful to be taken for granted." Marjorie Kouns
These works reveal the essence of my being–what I'm thinking
and how I feel. I'm drawing to share my world with you. After many
years of dwelling in my own percolating, yet stagnant mind-set,
I've chosen to open up emotionally, bringing the viewer into my
work naturally. My goal is to express visually what's going on inside
a lot of us personally.
The drawings in particular have a life of their own. Some are mind
maps, a glimpse of my feelings, drawn in embarrassed pride. In my
‘Inside-Out’ drawing series, a mini-Marjorie converses
with the outer persona, constantly challenging and provoking her.
Others, such as the abstract lozenge-like shapes of luscious orange
and rose exude a sensual quality which acts as a calming elixir
for the viewer.
The paintings depict colorful thoughts in abstract yet simple forms.
I work with color for the sake of color. My technique is to use
low-tech materials, especially my hand, as a brush. Using my hands
as brushes reinforces the universal hand-to-heart connection which
is so crucial to my work.
Later images combine photos, layered over and under color patterns
on to canvas. I orchestrate visual layers of verbalized thought
into my works of mixed media, installation and photography. In essence,
I am conducting a visual symphony of simplicity, honesty, and sensuality.
